My family and I have been users of Butchers Hook for the last few years. We used them when they had a shop in Battle & now use the one at Wylands Farm & Blackbrooks. We even used them for our Christmas meat last year (which was brilliant) We wanted to buy some meat for the Christmas period this year so went into the Blackbrooks shop to enquire about how much we would need for 10-12 people. The lad at the counter (who we cannot fault) suggested the 85 bundle pack which you can only order on the website, which is what we did. It arrived on the 23rd December, to which we were absolutely baffled, it was a tiny pack of food! So we thought, possibly they sent us the wrong pack of food, we looked at the tags on the meat and added up the price of them individually, which came to 70... but we paid 85 plus 5 delivery. What's the incentive of the bundle if we weren't getting our moneys worth, we may as well have purchased the meat separately. My mother messaged their Facebook page, sent photos of what we received and aired her frustrations, she was met with being blocked. So we called them today and spoke to Terence Adams, the owner. I asked exactly how it worked and he said the prices on the meat in the bundle isn't actually what it is worth, it is worth more than that, it is just put on for the weight of the meat... which makes no sense. We said we wanted to return the meat and get a refund, as we want to go elsewhere, since the food wont feed the amount of people we had. He proceeded to call us poor and said 'You're those people that shop at Lidl or Aldi and get the foreign meat. You cannot afford good meat'. He was beyond rude and unprofessional, when all we wanted was to understand what we had purchased and why it wasn't satisfactory. He said no refunds and refused to provide his name and that was that. We are extremely disgusted, horrified and upset from Terence's comments towards us. They were totally uncalled for and extreme. For this reason alone, we wont purchase from Butchers Hook again and nor will we ever recommend them. We went into the Wylands shop to discuss with him or someone there to get some help on the matter. Terence was not there. Initially, the lads there were somewhat hostile but once we explained the situation they totally understood and helped us. One of them even told us that the prices on the meat are correct, and what they would sell for separately. He agreed that it was not enough food for what we wanted and called Terence, who then took our bank details to provide the refund. We appreciate the lads help to rectify the problem. We then went to purchase 200 worth of meat from another butcher. We are beyond disappointed, insulted and saddened from the service received from specifically Terence, the owner.
