My time at Garnalex Aluminium Extrusions was quite short, however I did find it a positive experience overall. This is a fledgling company setup by a local successful business man who has achieved a lot over the years and has given a lot to the local community. I have personally been able to speak to him outside of work and hes always responded and given solid advice when needed. The work aspect at garnalex can be demanding but in the same light you are rewarded equally well for the work you put in. Some weeks I would work 6 days out of seven, often doing long hours but that is just my work ethic, which I may add was highly regarded by senior management. There is always something to do and you are not just treated like a robot. You will often be asked to conduct other duties alongside the standard requirements, which I feel can help you develop skills in other aspects of engineering. There is very much a family feel about the place, maybe this is because its a family company. I found that the directors were always around and you could freely approach them with any ideas or concerns you had, which is very refreshing particularly in todays job market where all too often managers dont get involved in shop floor environments. Ross was always around, which for me created a sense of team spirit. The team leader Dan was great he was a really easy going guy and loves football. It was always good to go to the pub down the road after a long week for a quick pint with him and the others, again instilling that sense of teamwork. Shona was also nice. She would often treat staff to breakfast out of her own pocket. She once said she likes to have a nice calm atmosphere which I would say is the case here. The other staff had their good points too. Alex the packing supervisor was awesome and an ex chef. He used to make my mouth water thw way he talked about food! The combi drivers were very good, and you knew you were in safe hands when they were around. Very aware of surroundings whilst being very efficient. Overall, if you want to work hard and get paid fairly for what you do then this is the place for you. This is a progressive company, streets ahead in terms of the product they have created and I can say they have a very successful future ahead of them. Thanks to you all.
