We were a party of four adults and one two-year-old staying at the Lodge in August 2022. Youll need Google Streetview to locate the entrance to Standford Grange, but youll be glad you did because once you enter the narrow gateway, the driveway opens out to a delightful view of the house and the Lodge, built as it is above the garages adjacent to the main house. Theres ample parking and use of the large garden to the east of the Lodge. The Lodge itself, accessed by a door and a flight of stairs, is large, bright and airy, and comfortably accommodated us, even when using the sunroom as a supplementary bedroom as we did. The apartment is finished to an incredibly high standard and looks more like a family home than a holiday rental. The ensuite and family bathrooms were perfect and coped with us all, and the fully equipped kitchen includes a washing machine and tumble drier; perfect if youre staying more than a few days. The main living and dining room is large and comfortably furnished with enough chairs and table space for six people. The TV comes with UK FreeSat, a DVD player, and a PlayStation, and of course the whole apartment is served with a fairly good Wi-Fi system, as is the minimum these days. It performed well and served all manner of devices in our group. All the windows in the Lodge, and there are many, come equipped with blackout blinds, important in the bedrooms and the sunroom. The view from the living room is across the garden into field and woods and is great for birdwatching. Indeed, we had a fully grown Wood Pigeon visit our windowsill one evening. There is a games room available for guests in one of the garages below the apartment, with some fitness equipment and table-tennis; ideal for kids should the weather not co-operate. There was a delightful home-made gate at the top of the stairs, and, despite its Heath-Robinson appearance, it defeated our busy two-year-old grandson so was deemed to be 100% effective! The Lodge is a good hopping off point for exploring the local area including Liphook, Bordon, Farnham, and Alton. If you want to go further afield, London is just over an hour away by train from Liphook or Alton, and the South Coast a little closer, from Liphook. All the main supermarkets are within a few minutes drive, and there are good country pubs nearby. Of particular interest to us was that the Lodge is within an hours drive of both Gatwick and Heathrow Airports. The hosts, Sally and Julian, live on site and are extremely friendly and helpful. Their Guests Notes are excellent and offer some interesting insights to the local area. We had an excellent stay at the Lodge and would highly recommend it, especially if youre using the airport.
