        Popped in for lunch on a cycle from Bowness-on-Windermere. The food was excellent and the beers from the adjacent Barngates Brewery were just as good! Service great too. Food & drinks: Would recommend the terrine, scotch egg, venison suet pudding & pork collar.

        We were seated 2 feet from the doorless kitchen. We asked to be seated somewhere where we were not assaulted by shouting and banging pots. The charmless waiter said there was nowhere else available. It was early evening and the place was empty. It never got half full. We ate and left quickly. The food: unremarkable. The bill: unjustified. There are better pubs and near by. Walkability: The car park was unlit and the ground was rooty and unkempt.
