Valentines night - we understand its a pop up prior to the main opening. Weve supported previous incarnations of auberge over the years with Christoff and others and so keen to try and spend our money locally. Venue is amazing - staff trying so hard and no bad marks for effort. Reality was food was in the main ok but too salty on the fish and beef dishes. Wine was explained as limited which was fine but then to find the gavi Di gavi had run out and Pinot Grigio was the alternative . Come on. Were not having much luck in restaurants lately as a recent trip to the grandison for a burns night was a complete joke with 2 haggis provided for the whole guest list. We also went to the bricklayers arms in Flaunden last Saturday - OMG - if any of the other gastro pubs or 5* restaurants want to try and survive - I suggest you go there - 11/10 for everything - food, quality wine by the glass ( not cheap rubbish) and service- amazing. Finally back to auberge- it would have been nice for the head chef to have come around the tables to take feedback- Alas it didnt happen- answer is less salt, make sure you have a wine range in stock and then we wish you well and hope its a success

This supposedly upscale restaurant served dessert in a broken glass container. Spent the rest of the evening in Stevenage A&E. When we wrote to complain the companies solicitors responded rudely unapologetically and aggressively by saying we had broken the glass on purpose. Either the dish was not fit for purpose and could be broken with the tiny teaspoon it was served with or it was broken before it left the kitchen. Either way my husbands birthday was ruined. No wonder this group keeps going into receivership with an attitude to customer service like this. An absolute disgrace and Health & Safety standards should be aware of this restaurants negligence.
