It may seem dated, but the care and love the residents receive is amazing and by far the most important thing for my mum who is staying there.

Thornwood needs to be updated in many ways it is dated in its decor and does need some TLC, but far more importance is the care and how they relate and speak to families who are going through traumatic times visiting and caring for their loved ones. Unfortunately for my beloved dad I felt I failed him as he was there for 3 months or so before he passed away, we felt as a family who visited every day almost that they were not used to relatives visiting as most of the other residents had hardly any visitors and we began to feel uncomfortable and almost getting in the way visiting dad in his last days, we were spoken to in a very patronising and blunt way about dads condition and there definitely needs to be a more training for their senior staff in how to talk to relatives, very stuck in their ways there was very little positivity by 2/ 3 staff members in particular, they never saw the person only the condition. There were however fantastic caring staff there who were younger with a new more modern approach and had real positive empathy for my dad who could teach these so called professionals a thing or to about caring I thank god they were with my dad in his final days which has helped with the guilt I feel.It has been over 3 months now since my dad passed away my mother never received a phone call of condolence, nor a letter, nothing! but a bill for dads expenses, disgraceful behaviour! and it was all about money at the end of the day! Very sad at least I know my dad is in a better place and free from pain. I would not recommend this home for anyone coping with dementia/ Alzheimer's particularly.
