Thank you to Terry at William Mansell. I had recently inherited a Victorian silver pocket watch. The watch had been consigned to a drawer for fifty years and was very much in need of attention: The case, crystal and watch. Terry completed a full repair and restoration and returned the watch to me in full working order and looking beautiful. I was further delighted as the Goldsmiths, Assay Office assessed the overall condition as Good/Fair. My family now has a gorgeous, working item that will continue to be passed through the generations. The next caretaker will be the original owners great-great granddaughter.

Pretentious staff. My dad has a silver pocket watch which needs some preparing. I googled to see if there is any good watch repairing shop and I found this William Mansell, which received quite a good review. The shop has a good prestige vintage vibe. I was greeted by a beautiful Labrador. "You could speak Chinese to the dog, she understands Chinese", the gentleman in the shop said. Apparently, my Asian feature led the guy misunderstood my nationality. He must think I was Chinese, but I am actually Thai. I felt slight offended that he expected me to speak Chinese to the canine. This could be an honest mistake, but I think it is worth to share with google review. I passed my dad's silver pocket watch to the lady. I asked how long this repairing process will be, since my dad will travel to London in 3 weeks time and it would be great if he could take the repaired watch back to Bangkok with him. "I cannot give you the estimation time", the lady said. "We have to let our watch maker to open it up and see what is wrong with it, and if we can fix it..there are many customers before you", the lady replied. I would like to know if it would take around 3 weeks, 3 months, or 6 months to wait. She said she could not possibly give me the estimation time. Somehow her tone of speaking made me felt quite uncomfortable. However, this is a fair point, so I decided to leave my dad's watch with her and see how it would go. About a day later I received the text message from the lady. After considering on the repairing price and the waiting time, I decided not to proceed the fixing. I went back to the shop to collect the pocket watch. I realised when I got back home that the back lid of the pocket watch has became loose. I understand that the watch maker must open the lid to check the mechanic inside, but now it cannot close properly anymore. I called the shop and told the same lady about this issue. Her tone of speaking made me felt like I owe her something and she would do me a favour by trying to fix the lid back to the original condition. I don't think I will go back to let them fix the back lid. I hope my review will give extra angle to this watch repairing shop.
