A great day out most seasons of the year. May is best for the bluebells. Loads of places for a picnic, especially good on the other side of the lake, to the entrance. Recommend that none National Trust members book in advance. Expect to pay 30 pounds for a family with 3 kids. There is sufficient parking, dog friendly on a leed. There is a cafe too.

A good day out, be prepared for some hilly bits to get the best of the woods.

Very well looked after National Trust site, with a little bit of everything. It have wonderful forests, lake, wetlands and lots of steps and considerable hills and basins to add interest. It seems to get more popular each year the car park has grown and grown. But the catering and toilets are still small scale. You can get a coffee and cake, maybe a prepacked sandwich but the catering is out of a shed. The ghost news is work has started on a new visitor centre which looks to have everything a site this size and popularity needs. Timing your visit will reward you with specular displays of blue bells (early May) and Azelea's (mid-May) the Azelea steps being a particular high light.
