The security woman on the gate is very rude. I had to stand at the window while she finished watching her netflix on her phone. I had to watch a video on site safety which she turned off while it was still playing this resulted in me not feeling entirely safe/comfortable while on site incase I made a mistake. When I asked why she turned it off she just grunted at me. I made a complaint when I got inside to the office and was told she is like that with all the drivers. This is unacceptable on a site of this nature.

The Haltermann Carless refinery isn't meant to be a visitor attraction & public access is forbidden, but nonetheless, a public footpath runs along the entire length of the southern perimeter fence. The visibility from the farm lane allows for amazingly close views of the site, including where the mainline railway branches off into a shunting yard for rolling stock tankers. I'm always impressed by the visual impact of the facility whenever I pass - it might not be beautiful, but the industrial ugliness is something I absolutely love. A unique aspect of the refinery that photos cannot possibly convey is the raw scent of petrochemicals wafting from the storage drums & tankers - on hot days, heady fumes wafting from the tankers & drums, can actually be tasted, overwhelming the senses...
