Geartech provided a refurbished gearbox and overdrive for my MGB, although it subsequently transpired they subcontracted out to two different suppliers. There were problems with the overdrive unit leaking and it took over 6 months of my regular garage negotiating and a formal letter to get them to address this under their warranty. Geartech then agreed in writing to collect fix and return the car at no cost to me. However, this was not the case and the whole process was very stressful and time consuming, costing me and my regular garage quite a lot extra. Despite the car passing its MOT the day before Geartech collected it they refused to return it as arranged, claiming a problem with a swollen brake pipe meant it was unsafe for them to drive it back to me. They also told me the exhaust manifold had a large crack. This wasnt present when they collected it, again checked and verified at the MOT centre the day before. Geartech were not willing to provide photos to corroborate their claims regarding the brake pipe or exhaust. They stated they were too busy to deal with this in angry voicemails and emails (capital letters). I then had to arrange for the manifold to be collected and repaired at my cost. Geartech expressed concern at the delay in collecting the engine and manifold, so my regular garage and I went to great lengths to ensure a 48 hr turn around. However, despite getting the engine and manifold back to them within this time they did not start work on refitting it themselves until a week later and then only after 2 phone calls and an email to chase for an update. In total they had the car for 3 weeks. It was clear that they prioritised new work over an existing customers issues. As they refused to return the car, I then had to arrange a recovery truck to collect. On direct return to the MOT centre no issue was found with the brake pipe. It was also noted that the fuel tank had not been topped up as agreed to replace the fuel used when collecting the car. The car was then inspected by my regular garage, who identified the engine and gearbox had not been reinstalled correctly. The gearbox had been replaced incorrectly without the appropriate spacers and previous new mounts installed originally had not been put back in. The result was that the cam seal was damaged due to resting on the bonnet. In addition then inlet manifold had been replaced out of alignment so was leaking fuel. It cost me and additional 900 to fix the problems caused by Geartecs poor workmanship in reinstalling the gearbox and engine.
