I started training here under Sensei Balazs after taking a break from Judo and he is brilliant! He has been practising and coaching Judo since he was 5 and his technique and passion shines through when you watch him coach. As a coach he is welcoming, straightforward and respectful. With kids, he also encourages play, enjoyment and achievement alongside skill development. I feel fortunate to get this level of Judo coaching in this part of the country, and anybody of any age or skill level won't regret coming to learn at Hajime Judo Club!

My 5 year old started 4 months ago in the Harrogate class and is thoroughly enjoying it! Sensei Balazs is very knowledgeable in his art and also very patient too so very ideal for kids with lots of energy!

I did martial arts at a high-level for 7 years before recently (five/six months ago) starting Brazilian Jui Jutsu and Judo. The environment you get here is excellent, whether its getting good at the sport of Judo, getting fit or if youre looking to compliment your other martial arts by improving your throws and takedowns, this is the place to be! This club will certainly make you tougher, more resilient, respectful and calm in the face of adversity be it on and off the mat. It is a safe environment where training partners respect each other, fears are overcome (especially for new people who may be afraid of being thrown or moving in ways they previously couldnt) and there is a great sense of comradely irrespective of skill level! There isnt any nonsense, dangerous egos or any rubbish like that (if you are worried or have seen that at other martial art clubs). We are all trying to better ourselves and grow as a group, which is perhaps why a lot of us are friends outside of this club and see each other fairly regularly as well. Judo is not an easy martial art as you may have seen when watching the Olympics or Judo training footage but if youre an adult and want to give it a shot to see if its for you, this is the club you can do so safely and in a way where youll improve and be surprised at what you CAN do! For the kids classes: I wouldnt know as I am an adult and the classes are clearly separate. However, I do see the kids finish their Judo class with smiles on their faces and I can bet that they too are enjoying it and are improving in the way kids should, playfully but disciplined and enjoying their Judo journey under a great Sensei whos ridiculously skilled! This is certainly an awesome club, Id highly recommend a free-trial or ask to watch a class if you have any doubts about what Ive written.
