Not just another jumped up pub for Harpenden's bon chic bon genre (though there were plenty in evidence), the Silver Cup's latest incarnation delivers on the promise of good grub, attractively presented and not too outrageously priced (if you are inured to London prices, lunch for two was 150 with a modest bottle of red). Very interesting but brief wine list. The service was attentive but not ever present. On a good day you can find parking a short walk away but parking in Harpenden Harpenden can be a trial. A welcome addition to Harpenden's eateries and thank heavens not another coffee shop. It's not big so it can get booked up. Reserve.

In summary, good food. Service could be better. Went today for a roast lunch. Had been before and it was nice, so we took a friend from abroad to try it as well. Disappointed. Ordered the pork, which included gravy previously but this time did not, and when we we ordered more gravy, the waitress made a point that she wasnt going to charge the extra (which they normally do! Outrageous, right? 36 for 2 course and if you want more gravy you need need to pay extra). The Kids roast is 27 for main and a dessert. My daughter barely tried the sorbet when it accidentally fell on the floor and it broke. She was so disappointed in herself for having accidentally dropped it (shes 3), the venue did not address the accident or offered a replacement (paid or not!). A tiny little piece of sorbet they try to be fancy but they are VERY far away from offering the level of service that the should given the price tag. Not a child friendly place either. It will never be anything more than an average pub with this service!

First review of a restaurant . Restaurant was extremely hot asked for ice in white wine but was forgotten then was told the limited 4 choices offered both our choice was off. Then we were told its either rare or well cooked i asked for medium but was told rare or well done. VERY instructional . But we went with the order. As you do. We chose well done. BIZARRELY. We both received very rare i asked for mine to be cooked more they grunted and took it returning it with no emotion NO apology. Nothing. Also worth noting Potatoes were brought out in a communal bowl so if they get it wrong your side go cold odd being a very rated pricey restaurant Also whilst im in a rant and very disappointing mood , stuffing watercress into a yorkshire pud is not fine dining was underwhelmed. Poor service at a basic level food not cooked properly forgetting that the customer has worked hard to be able to afford the meal seems sad . not great value not a wow factor.
