I was one of the first students to step though the doors back in 1966- they were still laying floorboards. Some very good academic teachers, but there were one or two who were chosen for their religious observance rather than abilities. The head at the time and his deputy were uncannily like the characters from 'Please Sir.' There was some corporal punishment there which is what teachers who lack strategies do but then the standards were OK. The building was clad in copper, which was supposed to go bight green (verdigris) like buildings in London. But it's pollution that causes the copper to change, and Harlow, even then, was a smokeless zone.
