We solved the WiFi problem by ordering a cheap mifi device on Amazon, along with a prepaid SIM card. According to one coverage checker both O2 and Vodafone are good in the area, so we plumped for O2 (best offer I could find on the day). Total cost 50, delivered to the cottage next day by Amazon. If you do the same I suggest you budget about 1gb per person per day.
