This is a tidy, spotless, very cosy, and tastefully decorated cottage, with a wood-burning stove and a log shed just outside. Yes, it doesn't have wi-fi, but that is clearly stated on the write-up on the NT holidays website. And that's just what we like when we go away, no distractions! There were plentiful games and books in the cupboard above the TV, again just what we wanted. Information is sent in an email before your stay with all the details of how to access and enter the property, and we found the cottage very easily in the dark. When morning rose, we found ourselves in a lovely woodland setting with well-indicated paths, taking you on various walks around the woods, where we saw the tallest tree in Sussex. The village of Handcross is within walking distance, from whence you can buy basic provisions. The local Red Lion pub has a great menu. I can find no faults with this exceptional cottage

Perfect getaway, for those who wish to detox from daily stresses, with minimal distractions (no wi fi and a tv similar in size to an iPad) Clean, well equipped, and beautiful. Surrounded by nature and woodland walks. Ideal for dogs too. Highly recommended, the National Trust always provides a superb holiday cottage.

Ah so I'm the first Google reviewer of Woodlands Cottage. In that case I'll try and give a full review to help others. First off, we dont seem to have received any correspondence from the National Trust relating to how to actually get to, or get into, the cottage. We set the sat nav to Nymans and arrive at, well obviously, Nymans. But that's not where Woodlands Cottage is. After a couple of conversations with the friendly NT staff, we get the directions and a code for the padlock at the entrance gate and directions to the cottage and another code to the key safe for the front door key. From the B2110 it's about half a mile drive down a track until you get to the cottage. 'Woodlands Cottage' says it all really, it's a cottage in the woodlands. It was built in 1878. Move forward 140 years or so and it's still here. It's not luxurious accommodation by any means, but if you're happy to stay in a wood, amongst the trees, near lakes, away from the roads, with complete darkness at night, a log burner, the smallest TV and no wi-fi, this is a fabulous place to come to. It's very quiet. The walks from the cottage are beautiful. There lakes are further down the track a short walk away. There are footpaths back up to Handcross and Nymans. Step inside the cottage and you'll be in a small entrance area with a boiler room just off it. Through the door on the left and there's a small hallway with stairs up to the bathroom and two bedrooms. Head through the door and you'll be in the main downstairs room which you can walk straight though, to the small kitchen. The living room has a sofa and couple of armchairs together with a four seater dining table. It also has a log burner. Essentially its just one triple-aspect room downstairs, but it works well. Outside there's a small table and seating area next to a well-stocked log store. The garden is really just grass and a couple of staked trees, no planting. But that's not a problem as you're mostly looking beyond the garden at the surrounding trees, bushes and a few other old buildings. As I touched on before, if youre looking for modern spotless accommodation, this is not it. If youd like to stay in an old cottage in the woods, this is it. We loved it.

We love this little National Trust cottage. A cosy and comfortable stay, tucked away in the woods with trails to explore the surrounding area.
