Going through my commercial endorsement has been an absolute joke. Terrible communication between both departments and myself. Crazy considering their role in the marine industry

Very unsupporting organtiastion, as a member I feel they do not listen to there memebers Asked for some advice on how to deal with a safety incident with a rya training centre, involving a powerboat and a paddle board. After wiring an email to inform them the centre had not followed safety or made an effort to answer my complaint about the safety incident. I sent in an email to the RYA and they did not even reply to say they have got the email, When I followed up a few days later this was the answer I got. It is not usual for a complainant to be kept informed of the result of such. If you have any further questions, please contact the centre directly. I dont understand why I pay a membership to an organisation thats meant to support its members and the safe use of the water and Boats.

As a motor boat owner it's tempting to think that the RYA does nothing for you. The reality is anything but the case. The RYA has worked hard to fight our corner when it comes to regulatory changes and our relationship with Europe / the EU. In our case we have also used the RYA to provide MCA certification for our boat charter operation. I personally have also benefited from their training programs to further my own abilities. Not only the Yachtmaster qualification but also sea survival skills and general first aid. As an organisation they still see people as individuals and have pulled out the stops on a couple of occasions when we needed specific help. We are very fortunate to have the RYA on our side.

They are good at charging membership fee every year. But if you ever need their help with unethical instructor or an issue with a school they will find a reason not to interfere. So really the only thing you get for paying 47 annually is their magazine which is mostly useless.
