In the town centre of Halifax this is the best place to eat in my opinion. The staff are lovely, the menu changes every week and is fantastic value and the food is consistently great. I've eaten here loads of times and have never had a bad meal.

I booked a table at this restaurant yesterday on the recommendation of some business clients whom I was taking for a business lunch. I was visiting Halifax from London, so had little knowledge of restaurants in the area. I realise it was a very busy day, with many Christmas lunches taking place, but the service we received was little short of lamentable. We were seated at our table and, although a drinks order was taken shortly after arrival, we had to wait a good 25 minutes to order our food. Since we had trains to catch and only a limited amount of time, we felt we did not have enough time for starters, so ordered only main courses. A good hour after arriving at the restaurant, our drinks glasses were empty and no food had arrived. I asked one of the staff (who I took to be a "manager") how long the food would be and her attitude was appalling. She said that, if we had wanted food to arrive promptly, we should have asked on arrival. I pointed out that usually one assumes that food would be served within a reasonable time and that one should not have to ask. I added that we had not ordered starters, as by the time our order was taken, there was insufficient time. She then blamed us (!) for the delay, saying "well, if you didn't order starters, that's why it's taking so long (?)" She checked with the kitchen and tersely told us that the food would be another 20 minutes. "There's no room on the grill, you know...." I requested more drinks. These took another 15 minutes at least. Finally, the food arrived and the lady pointed out that one of my colleagues had ordered pork... "they have to check that's cooked right through, you know", she snapped - "that's another reason why it's taken so long"... The food was mediocre - the steak and chips was probably the worst I've tasted, but the hot sandwiches and - ironically - the pork were very good. My clients were embarrassed by the attitude of this woman and, being local, said they would not be booking again in a hurry or advising their colleagues to do so. So, all in all, a disappointing experience and mostly due to a member of staff with exceptionally poor customer service skills and a bad attitude.
