I have been subjected to a GDPR breach and put at risk when a WFW solicitor divulged my personal financial information to a man who phoned up asking about me. No identity checks; no efforts were made to ensure who he was at all which is a flagrant risk to my safety. This type of breach of personal information is not only illegal it could have put me at serious risk in terms of my physical safety. It has crossed my mind this could be deliberate gender-based intimidation by the male solicitor who made the breach. Its completely unethical and disturbing, as it has triggered past gender-based violence trauma and made me fear for my personal safety as this negligent, SRA-solicitor clearly doesnt know what he is meant to do relating to personal information and could risk the personal information and safety of anyone whose information he has access to, or even worse it was a deliberate intimidatory act and he should lose his SRA accreditation. I cant believe I am writing this. WFW is required by law and the ICO to protect their clients and other individuals whose information they hold. This upsetting incident has also highlighted WFW employee ignorance relating to gendered issues of personal safety. Since this solicitor made no effort to check who he was sharing information with this breach could have so easily involved someone who is prevented to access me for example. Its shocking and terrifying. I hope that WFW urgently review their procedures to prevent this ever happening again.
