When my mother died recently I wanted to pass on some of the proceeds of her house to my daughters as I am now 77 and realise that they may one day have a big tax burden when I die. I read about a Deed of Variation but realised that my case was very simple and a Solicitor would probably charge me at least 500. I downloaded the Deed of Variation template, read all off the guidance notes very carefully before starting to fill in my own details. It was easier because my Mothers estate is under the tax threshold. I have printed it off and will get my signature and those of my new beneficiaries witnessed. When I sell my Mothers property I will give the Deed to my Solicitor who will then hopefully pay my daughters their share from the estate directly. I will give each of my daughters a copy of the Deed to keep as proof that they were direct beneficiaries.
