I took in a sports jacket to have the sleeves altered (shortened) that had 8 cuff buttons missing (4 on each side) and was quoted 20 (fair/average price) which I agreed a few months back.
When I went to the rear of the shop to be measured by the assist, the assistant told me that they didn`t have the bog standard 4 hole size cuff black buttons in stock (which was quite surprising), I said no problem, I would come back in a week with the correct buttons which I bought from ebay for a few quid.
I went back to the shop, and the assistant wanted to check with the owner Nicole who was on the phone to go ahead, but I was then quoted 30 which was very annoying and unfair given they already quoted me 20 to have the work completed which I pointed out = so I walked away.
Now I have already supplied them with the correct buttons (which they could have ordered themselves, but they didn`t seem bothered to make the effort to order them = poor attitude).
its quite clear that this owners makes up prices when she feels like it, I think this why she doesn`t advertise prices on her website for BASIC alterations.
At no point was I rude or abrasive to anyone in the shop, its very clear something is very wrong here...........is it a case of being too proud? stubborness? arrogance? can`t take constructive critism? or that the owner has a problem with men in general? or perhaps its an cultural thing with some people from the eastern block countries?.............tell me Nicole, are you from Romania?....whats wrong with ya girl?
Now I consider myself very lucky, - My late father was a old school Saville Row type tailor, and my late aunt was a wedding dress maker & designer who owned a haberdashery shop in the old Rumford hall (Lanes) in Romford market in the 1980`s = so I have a basic understanding of customer service & alterations. Service: Men's clothing alterations
