Tidelands Boathouse

We spent five nights at Tidelands Boathouse and had such a relaxing break. The boathouse itself is beautifully decorated inside and out. The views over the river are just stunning and always changing. We watched the many different species of birds flying over and wading in the shoreline of the river, and in the evening it was just as entertaining to look across at the lights over the river. The hosts have thought of everything, big and small, that guests might want or need - we could definitely have taken less stuff as it was already there, from robes and towels to basic cookery needs as well as a lovely coffee machine (with a generous selection of pods), dishwasher, washing machine, slow cooker and more. There were games, books, binoculars, maps, puzzles. Toiletries and cleaning materials were also provided. And a lovely welcome gift. We also used the wood-fired hot tub during our stay - every morning and evening we wallowed in warm water, enjoying the river views. We also used the fire pit offered by our hosts. The location of the boathouse is great for walks along the shore of the river (with a handy pub/restaurant a short walk away, also accessible via a field behind the boathouse). It is also an easy drive to the coast and to Dartmoor for those who wish to explore more of the locality.

I cannot speak highly enough of this AirBnB! Beverly and Dave were fantastic hosts and couldnt do more for you. The entire trip was brilliant, and we had the best time ever! Everything you can think of was taken care of and so much is included that it made the entire trip so much more special for us. This was the first time my new wife and I had been away for Christmas. We chose Tidelands because of the hot tub which the property has, and this did not disappoint! It is a log burner which heats the water and boy is it toasty! The hot tub holds the heat for the entire day, so you only need to put it on once a day if that to keep it around 38C. As its powered by fire, trying to keep it at a stable temp is difficult as it will continually heat the water if the fire is on, just something to bear in mind, anything over 40C can get a bit uncomfortable. The location is just perfect. Its right on the waterfront (as you would expect for a boathouse!) and you can walk along the river at low tide but bring your wellies as its a bit muddy! The views at all times of day are spectacular and we just sat the entire day in front of a fire pit or in the hot tub looking out over the water! The house itself has everything you need to enjoy your stay. From Devon based monopoly, to Nespresso coffee to smaller touches like a bath robe and slippers! Beverly and Dave supply things like teas and sugar to salt and pepper to help with cooking. All utensils and cooking items are all there ready to be used so you dont have to bring them. We ate at the pub over Christmas, so this wasnt a big thing for us, however its great to know if you wanted to cook, its really easy to do so. The house had extra towels, so you didnt have to dry the first one before getting in the hot tub. They had bottles of water next to the bed to save you getting up in the night, there was milk in the fridge so you can have a cup of tea straight away when you get there. Even though its not something I could use, I thought it was a fantastic touch to have a box of tampons available in case of emergency use. This shows the level of detail the hosts have gone to, to try and thing of everything you could possibly want or need! The hosts provided us with a bottle of Prosecco to enjoy on our stay along with a Milk chocolate tray which was so unexpected but made out first night that extra special. In addition, as we stayed over Christmas, they even wrapped a gift for us and left it under their tree! Which we are absolutely going to copy as we have cats which would normally destroy ours! Its touches like this which made our stay that extra bit special! So, what were the bad points? Honestly, they are so minor its hardly worth mentioning, and they certainly didnt affect the review score as everything else was just so amazing, they are also only my opinions and based on what I am used to. You will say I am being so picky on these and I have had to be as there was literally nothing else wrong with our stay! The water pressure in the shower was a little low for my liking, and at 6 foot 2, a little compact. However, I find this on most enclosed showers! The pillows on the bed were very fluffy but didnt hold their shape when slept on. We had to get pillows from the sofa as there were no others available to help prop up our heads over night. Maybe a spare set in a cupboard just in case? This made the first nights sleep rather uncomfortable as it meant our heads were in an awkward position and sent cramps in our shoulders. Again, as its different from our own, it took a minute to adjust. Thats it. Two minor issues, which were more to do with us than the stay, hosts, and house! We cannot speak highly enough of this stay, and we are already contemplating booking for next Christmas! You will not regret staying with Beverley and Dave. I highly recommend you book! (just not at Christmas, thats mine!)
