I had back issues from the age of 19 to 36 (I am now 39) with 4 spinal surgeries the last one being a fusion at the age of 32. So what changed at the age of 36? I found movement, more specifically I found Angie Stirland Was Whitwick and The Stirland Approach, you has literally changed my life. I am no longer taking strong pain killers, bent double in pain or avoiding doing what I want to do. I was told that I would need to go back for further surgery within 5-7 years from my last op, well that was 7 years ago and i have no pain, a bigger range of movement, stronger and fitter than I can ever remember. I don't train strength I use my body to do what it is designed to do which is move. For years I was told that I needed to keep my core strong by tensing exercises- I was that tense I could not move properly which was just increasing the problem and the pain. 3 years ago I would have said surgery was what was needed, and it did have a limited benefit for a very limited time. Now I couldn't disagree more. Once I started to learn not to purposely activate my muscles and start to move properly and functionally I started to feel the benefits within a couple of weeks and my body is still adapting and amazing me at what I can do. I certainly wouldn't be going back under the knife for my back.

I have suffered back pain since my mid teens and nothing has brought permanent relief, until I started training with Angie, the creator of the Stirland Approach, about 4 years ago. I am now living back pain free, and I can't tell you how good it feels to be able to say that. I also have a Ph.D in human biology, motor control neuroscience to be exact. The amount I am learning from Angie about how my body is supposed to move is extraordinary. To find a movement teacher and mentor at this stage in my life gives me great hope and excitement about the learning to come. Definitely recommend, everyone needs to move well.
