Friendly staff and very attentive but ruined by their complete lack of transparency over pricing. I booked highlights. Nothing more and nothing less. Following the colour the assistant woman said shed rough dry my hair. She did so for no more than 5 minutes. She then started chatting to the hairdresser and came back and started to look like she was about to start a proper blow dry. I told her I neither booked nor wanted a blow dry. She said it was still a bit wet but I said that was fine as I lived close by and was going straight home. I went to pay and was charged 10 more than I was expecting. I questioned this and was told that the 10 was for the rough dry. What?! Never have I been charged for a rough dry here or anywhere. I didnt want to make a scene but the response was far from convincing. I said I should have been told that there was an extra charge for rough dry (I live 5 mins away and am quite capable of holding a hairdryer over my own head) and was told that they had to rough dry it to check the colour. Fine, but in that case why isnt it factored into the cost of the highlights if the customer has no choice but to pay it? I was told it was an additional service, which again makes no sense as apparently its mandatory and forms part of the highlighting service. Applying this theory, Im surprised I wasnt charged separately for the wash! I pointed out that there is no mention of this charge on their website and it doesnt feature as a separate service on their price list under the colouring section. She said it should do and she would mention to management. If it is a chargeable service it should be 1) transparent and 2) offered to customers and not made mandatory. Also, why didnt the assistant question why I didnt want completely bone dry hair given that I was supposedly paying 10 for the privilege? Finally, at 10 for less than 5 mins this to me is a grossly overpriced service given that its capable of being undertaken by someone with no training or skills whatsoever. Proportionately it must be the most expensive service they offer at 120 p/h. Feels a bit petty making an issue over such a small sum but transparency over pricing is a basic thing that every service provider should get right. And the receptionist should have dealt with this better; she should have accepted that I was given a service that I neither wanted nor booked and just refunded me the 10. Disappointing all round.
