Party of 11 booked in for my husbands 60th birthday. 7.30 we booked it for took til 9pm to get our 1st course. Most of the food was Luke warm. The steaks we had most of them werent cooked to our order. Had to go up and ask the waitress to order our 2nd round of drinks. We had picked our deserts but we decided not to order any Felt awful not leaving a tip but it wasnt deserved. Wont be going back Food & drinks: Food was lovely just wasnt hot

Myself and partner and daughter (8 years) stayed here in the Brunton room for one night. We found the room lovely and warm and the beds were super comfortable, shower very good and TV and tea/coffee facilities good also. We had dinner in the restaurant and cooked breakfast both of which were very nice, good kids menu and they had gluten free options too.

Highly recommended hotel, particularly when on offer. The food is such a bonus. We booked under a dinner, bed & breakfast deal. It was priced at 99 or 109 per night over the last few months. There's so much Roman history nearby and beautiful countryside to enjoy that it's worth the price even without the food. The breakfast was hearty. They use really good ingredients and you can choose anything and as much as you want off the menu. The bacon and waffles, sarnie and full English were all great. We had granola, smoothies and other snacks too. The dinner included a 3 course menu (plus warm and fluffy bread). Everything was executed to a high standard. It's otherwise 21 if you just come the restaurant but it's an absolute bargain. The chef is serving gastropub food at Wetherspoons prices. The hotel bar / pub is reasonably priced and comfortable so you don't really need to relax anywhere else. There is a service charge added for drink orders whilst you dine.
