The House of Black and White, Torrington

The House of Black and White is ideal for groups and family gatherings and is in a perfect location in Gt.Torrington. Four of us from Scotland spent eleven days there - each of us having a room of our own and one left over. Spacious and comfortable accommodation in a great setting, the house is a treasure trove of interesting artefacts - all the character of a listed property with the advantage of modern convenience - fantastic kitchen with modern appliances. The situation of the house could hardly be more convenient. The privately fenced off parking area at the bottom of the large garden leads straight onto the public car park across which is the information centre and great little cafe with outside seating area and beyond to interesting walking routes. We found Gt Torrington itself a really friendly place and convenient for visits to other places of interest. We even managed to squeeze in a show at the local Arts Centre. Our visit in late September provided some opportunity to enjoy the garden, cooler evenings indoors the cosy fires in the sitting room or kitchen. A most interesting and enjoyable experience.

Enjoyed staying at the house of black & white pre-pandemic with a group of friends (we were 3 parties of 5 adults and 2 children), and shared a lovely long weekend basking in its stunning scenic location. Nature walks, and discovering Torrington by day, and cosy nights in around a woodburner. Ample space for everyone, with each room designed beautifully to give you everything you need, and a fabulous host in Tiffany. We will definitely be back and have already recommended to many friends and family since.

This is a most beautiful house. Each room is like different chapters in a book and it is just a joy to be there and soak it up. But also its practical, the kitchen has all mod cons, I didn't feel that I had to watch the kids and not relax. I've been there at Christmas where it was cosy with open fires etc. and then in summer where we made use of the outdoor space and BBQ. The location is great for a wee drink at the local bars, or wee drive to the beaches, we hired bikes and did a local trail, we even made use of the local pool to let the kids splash about, but we also sat looking over the common and stargazed. Such a find, will definitely be back.
