Old Barn Cottages

We are staying in The Chaffhouse which is part of Old Barn Cottages. There are three self catering cottages which make up the large barn conversion. We are renting for four weeks as we've sold our home and are waiting to move into our new build. After the stress of moving home, this really has been a tonic. I've never seen such beautiful sunsets right on our doorstep. The cottage is warm and clean. There's a kitchen, living room and bathroom downstairs with an area to sit in out the front. It's got a charming countryside rustic quality about it, there are lots of channels on the TV as well as a DVD and video recorder. The kitchen has everything you could need and the shower in the bathroom is very powerful. Upstairs, there is a lovely mezzanine, with a fold up sofa bed. There are two bedrooms, one with a single bed and one with a double. It's slightly creaky but the mattress is a silentnight ortho so good quality there. Sheets and duvets were crisp and clean. We did our own cleaning due to Covid but I happy to do so and made use of the washing machine and dryer in the utility room. The best part of this rental is the private woodlands. The dogs have been in heaven exploring them. A circular walk in the woods is about 0.5K and there's a generous garden out the front, but do bring doggy bags and clean up after your pooch as the owners go to a lot of trouble to keep it nice. Our hosts have been just lovely, really welcome and accommodating. Great Sturton is a quiet area but it's just 5K to nearby towns and there are lots of places to explore. This holiday cottage exceeded all my expectations and is great value for money. It would make a great writing retreat or a getaway from everything.
