17/04/2023 Went to the masjid to pray terawih on the 27th night of Ramadan. All was fine and Alhamdulillah the imaam leading the prayer is great, personal opinion probably the nicest pronunciation in the local area. During the Terawih prayer, a gentleman stood up to discuss the importance of charity for the masjid. Respectfully we all listened with our ears wide open however this went on for a little too long. At first he introduced Hamza (speakers corner) who has pledged he will donate between 10-15k towards the masjid. This is an amazing amount, however this was all done by Hamza sharing the donation page on his social media hence he managed to get a large figure for the masjid. The gentleman then cheekily made a request for someone within the audience to also make a pledge of 10,000 to the masjid. Considering the living crisis going on with the uprise of bills, mortgage/rent payments etc no one was able to commit such a large number to the masjid. The figure dropped to 5,000. Would you believe this was going on for about 30 minutes where the gentleman started making remarks at how he was appalled/ashamed that not one of the members within the audience could make a pledge of this figure to the mosque. We could not believe this was going on and on and decided to leave due to the disrespectful speech. Considering the countries state, recession, living crisis and more its terrible that a mosque would demand for people to make a pledge of such a large amount. Statistically we are meant to pay a small percentage of our salary to the mosque and that is between us and Allah however to demand such a large figure in the middle of salah is not normal. We werent the only people who were appalled as looking around and everyone in the hall were honestly shocked listening to the gentleman insult the audience as to how he couldnt believe we were not able to afford 10k as he knows our network can fund the amount. I dont understand how and why they decided to build so many floors considering they didnt have the funds and from what I have been reading from other reviews this pledge of donating to the mosque has been going on for quite some time and has very little improvement over the years. Either way, it only shows the true colours of the supposed management of the mosque and can only pray Allah forgives their tongue and insulting each and every person during this holy night. We will not be refusing to attend the mosque however it is true that mosques are unfortunately now seen as a business rather than a home for worship. May Allah forgive me for bringing this to light, however I have solely uploaded my experience for the mosque to rethink their actions in approaching people for donations (which they seem to have forgotten what donation means) and for the local public to be aware of the management of the mosque. Inshaallah things change and they reconsider this tactic to be a mosque for the locals rather than a business which it seems to be.
