When I first mentioned to Chris that it was something I wanted us to do in the build up to labour he was skeptical but as always was happy to give it a go if I thought it would help! I was beginning to feel slightly anxious as we got closer to the birth of our baby, having sadly lost our daughter Penelope, who was born sleeping, the previous year. I said from the beginning of this pregnancy that I was adamant our baby boy would grow, and eventually be born into a calm and quiet environment, just like his sister had been. I wanted us all to feel safe.
Arriving at the venue we were both excited, and admittedly a little nervous, but we were immediately put at ease. Abi was warm, welcoming and most importantly down to earth and normal. Im not sure what we expected but we instantly relaxed and felt comfortable.
Our sessions were individual, with just us and Abi, and I feel like this was paramount to our successful hypnobirthing experience. It meant that myself and especially my husband were able to be completely honest and say exactly what we were thinking And what we needed without reservation. It was perfect!
The best part about hypnobirthing for me was the realisation that there is no perfect birth, and that hypnobirthing could help us no matter which route our labour ended up taking. Having now gone through a 71.5 hour medically induced labour with a few hurdles along the way I can honestly say both Chris and I were able to remain calm for the whole 3 days, and our boy was born into the relaxed, almost serene environment we had dreamed of. For Chris it was probably the delicious homemade lunches!
Chris took on his role as gatekeeper from the minute we left Abi, 5 weeks before our birthing experience, and thanks to Abis guidance he was the perfect birthing partner. He was calm when I needed calm, firm when I needed to be reminded I could do it, quiet when I needed quiet, and most significantly he was confident and direct when I needed someone to ask sometimes uncomfortable questions and ensure our care was tailored to us!
I never thought Id say this but we genuinely enjoyed every aspect of pregnancy and labour, and I put a lot of that down to Abi, and all of the help she gave us not only during our two day hypnobirthing course, but also the continued support afterwards in the build up to our amazing experience in labour and beyond!
If you are in two minds about wether or not hypnobirthing is right for you, give Abi a call and talk through your reservations - this is what I did and I am so glad!

Abi is absolutely lovely. It was the first time we had managed to get this far with a pregnancy and she enabled us to be positive about the whole experience. I'm a nervous overthinker but the way the material works through your fears helped me to the point where we were both actually looking forward to the birth. There is a lot of science behind the theory, the calmer the mother is, the easier it is for the body to do what it needs to. The course includes practical information and even helps you to be able to talk to the medical professionals to get your point across (very valuable if you want your voice to be heard during what can be an emotional and stressful experience).
While the birth didn't exactly go to plan, we were still able to apply a lot of the hypnobirthing to the situation and there was one point where my husband was able to help me a lot just by using some of the techniques Abi had taught us. While you can do the reading yourself, having someone to answer your questions and explain everything makes the difference.
I really can't recommend Abi and her course enough.
