    Call me old fashioned but I value honesty, integrity and accountability and I did not find much of this here under the care of the surgeon or the governance team. When cataract surgery (on a more complex eye than average) results in worse vision than pre-cataract, I expect my visual acuity records to match the reality. Not being able to see the second row of large letters on the chart needs to be recorded exactly as that. Recording the impossible opposite (i.e. being able to read some of the smallest print) is either careless/incompetent or dishonest. After a reportedly necessary premium (toric) IOL had minimal impact on my astigmatism (confirmed by multiple ophthalmologists elsewhere), I did not expect to be deceived repeatedly by my surgeon at Newmedica in falsely reporting (verbally and in writing) that he had halved my astigmatism with this implant: he tried to convince me of this by comparing two wholly incompatible measures. Treating patients in this way (as if they are lacking in cognition) by making such nonsensical comparisons is insulting and looks questionable to other ophthalmologists (alongside the aforementioned misreported measures for visual acuity). Similarly, when contact lenses failed to remedy my post-operative vision - instead making my vision even more distorted and the contact lenses impossible to use (when combined with the incompatible toric implant) - I expected my consultant to report this factually (as indeed the contact lens fitter had). But no, my surgeon reported to other ophthalmologists that the contact lenses had improved my vision. Repeatedly a false impression of my vision has been given to other specialists. It is all too easy, it seems, to paint a false picture of a patient while the surgeon remains unaccountable for his actions. Regarding toric IOLs - these benefit from face-to-face monitoring post operatively to check they have not rotated. Newmedica did not offer this service but I asked to be seen when my vision became blurred. When finally seen at six weeks post-op, I was assured (seemingly incorrectly) that there was NO rotation of the lens. Other ophthalmologists elsewhere found this not to be the case and confirm that it has contributed to the resulting outcome. It is now too late to rotate the lens and highly risky to remove it - even by top ophthalmologists. Protocols were not followed on a broad scale and promises of support were broken. Newmedicas governance team simply recited the surgeons untruths that I had challenged - and added a few more of their own. From me they received the absolute facts about my poor experiences. I hope they will reflect on these and make sure they arent repeated for other patients.
