My grandparents, Herbert and Jane Cole, lived in Clare then Skirr cottage from about 1940 to 1959 when they both had died. Both, I believe, are buried in the nearby churchyard or cemetery. With my family we holidayed each August with my grandparents. It was a bit of a squash, 6 of us in one of the cottages. Outside toilet, no electricity, water from the well or stream. We spent much time at Putsborough getting there on our bikes which we had brought down from London on the train to Barnstaple, or was it Braunton. Beautiful memories of times there. I believe my several cousins stayed there during WW2 as they lived in Sutton and Cheam which was subject to German bombing and V2 rockets. My grandfather grew runner beans and sweet peas in the front garden in summer. The beans seemed amazingly abundant and tasty and the sweet peas beautifully scented.

A beautiful cottage situated very close to the Devon coast, and some of the most beautiful beaches in England. The owners are wonderful and will make your stay all that much easier, they really go the extra mile for you. We will visit again I'm sure.
