Very pleasant place to visit for a quiet stroll. There is parking for about 6 or 7 cars alongside the stile were you enter the Reservoir. If you turn off the Leek to Macclesfield Road at the Old Smithy garage and just follow the lane you come to it. Once the stile has been negotiated it is pretty flat apart from a few concrete steps over a water inlet/ outlet ( that's what I'd call it ). There was a very quiet hum of traffic in the distance, but otherwise it was very peaceful. Plenty of geese, butterflies and I spotted a heron. Zoom in on the photos to see him. During my visit I hoped to walk around the Reservoir, but the furthest end was quite muddy and I didn't have the time to walk too far from the waters edge. There are some muddy areas in the woodland, but we had just had several days rain when I visited. I was there on a sunny afternoon and saw one gentleman walking and a couple with a dog in the hour that I was there. It is just under a mile to walk from the gate to the far end of the lake using the more obvious path around the far side of the Reservoir. There were shells near the waters edge and some great squiggy moss type fauna that kids in wellies would enjoy. I was happy I wore long trousers, as there were a few brambles and nettles when I walked through the trees, there are other routes that could be taken, if you aren't as adventurous. I went past two benches , for anyone wanting a picnic or a rest. There are lovely views of heather on the hills behind the Reservoir too. If you are looking for somewhere to walk away from others, then this is the place.
