This is such a beautiful building that was gifted to the borough. Unfortunately it has been empty for a long time. Whether it was supposed to be a museum it still hasn't happened yet - and public building like this should not be sold - it should be run as a community centre. Gateshead in general is incredibly derelict and destitute nowadays, the high street is dead, all empty shop fronts and the old library next to this building is also boarded up. Every time I walk past this magnificent relic I am reminded of the sad and sorry state of the country.

Found this building while walking down West Street after visiting a pub. This magnificent Gateshead Old Town Hall is so eye catching. This building has a beautiful little clock tower in front of it. Btw its Grade II listed structure, constructed in the Gothic style with beautiful classical motifs. it stands an impressive 25 feet tall ,there's an inscription that reads " presented to the Borough of Gateshead by Walter Willson,Mayor 1892 " shame it was closed n there was a for sale sign board.
