The Garsdale Retreat

The Garsdale Retreat is brilliant. The house, set in a beautiful valley, is characterful and well-kept, and Hamish and Rebecca are endlessly warm. I dont think Ive ever been looked after so nicely before. The food is delicious and comes often! I did the tutored fiction retreat with Hannah Vincent, who is a brilliant teacher and has a talent for reigniting your passion for writing.

An idyllic week spent in the company of Hamish, Rebecca and their cat Sushi. Ideal location right by the station, wonderful hosts, exquisite food, lovely house and access to many beautiful walks in the Yorkshire countryside. Its almost impossible not to feel inspired and productive here!

I was at a stage with my script where I needed to be looked after like a baby bird in tranquility - I found my nest at The Garsdale Retreat. Rebecca and Hamish are perfect hosts who feel more like extended family. They pamper quietly while making you feel at home immediately. The setting is country idyllic and the food to die for. Garsdale offers a range of tutor support, delivered by experienced writers across a range of genres. Or alternatively you can enjoy the peace and hospitality on an untutored retreat. Either way, you'll leave Garsdale refreshed, inspired and planning your return.

The Garsdale Retreat is ideally located: close to the M6 and just minutes away from a small railway station. The moment I stepped inside it felt like home. Hamish and Rebecca have created the perfect environment for writers and poets to be inspired and nurtured. From my room I had a view of hills and I could hear the sheep and their lambs. The food is wholesome and of a high standard. The workshops take place in an airy converted barn. As well as workshops you can choose an untutored retreat. Many people have already been on a return visit and I intend to book soon!
