Comfortable room with lovely views. Only drawbacks were that the curtains were rotting so could not really be pulled to black out the light. Service, from a very skeleton staff, was exceptional and attentive. I'd had problems with my initial booking via the website and was unable to get through by phone or email, but as the Anchor is part of a larger group owned by a brewery, this was not down to the on-site staff. Would stay again. We were attending a wedding in the local area at Bury Court, and this was a very pleasant stay.

SO disappointing today! We were dining out for a special occasion and I feel I need to say this on here to save anyone else the embarrassment we had today. If you went here before it has changed hands it's defiantly gone downhill, which is a real shame. The food, service , everything you couldn't fault before , hence why we were returning to give it a try under new ownership. We walked in the place was dead, this was never how it used to be... We asked for a specific drink we were presented something we didn't ask for and expected to drink it from the barmaid with no comment of ' we don't have this would you like something else' I couldn't sit and bite my tongue any longer I told her colleague . 'We did not ask for this and nor were we given a option to make another decision'. He then said he would make us a drink that we would like.. . That drink was nice but it took him ages to make 2 cocktails in a empty restaurant there was 3 other tables. I can understand if the restaurant had been busy, which it wasn't our drink didn't turn up until our main arrived then we had to ask the chef. Then we move on to the mains , NO SPECIALS and 4 mains to choose from on the menu? Appalling lack of choice, I was flabbergasted by this, immediately wanted to leave but was told by my partner give it a chance. By this point we were thirsty tired and just accepted that it was terrible.... I was too late to book anywhere else when we have rebooked this 2 months in advance. We had to take cutlery off another table these are basic things the glasses of water on the table were dirty made marks all over them. We actually work in hospitality , we don't expect a lot just good service and attention to detail which the whole experience lacked. We shall not be returning which is extremely disappointing. Food & drinks: As Above
