The shop layout and everything is all fine - great even. Just what you would expect. The reason for my rating was the horrible customer service we recieved. First we went to the automatic checkout. We were the only ones in the store and we first noticed the pen that said 7.99 back in the pen aisle said 8.99 on the checkout. We were only buying a three pack of pens and a water .We accidentally scanned the pens twice and when we removed one it said to wait for a member of staff. Still we were the only ones in the shop- the checkout machine kept flashing and asking for a member of staff. Still none came. We waited for perhaps five minutes , very awkward, before we started looking for the staff member and calling out. We had to physically go to the staff room and call to get the man to come out. Not apologetic- nothing. He said to come to the main checkout after fumbling with the automatic for a while. He reduced the price of the pen after we showed him the prices and we were told to pay . At this moment a man walks in just as the pat machine said it had an error and wouldnt change the screen. The cashier then engaged in a lengthy conversation with the man about letters (he was let down too evidently as the man handled it very badly and said the customer had to book online for a letter) and we were left waiting for yet more time to pay. We finally said that we had to pay after several more failed attempts with the machine until the man left us. Not great experience

Had to go to Frome to visit a family member because it was their birthday and thought I would pop in here to get a card but was made to feel very unwelcome by young female assistant because I had never been here before I needed the walk around the shop and noticed almost instantly that she started following me around the shop so after 5-minutes I approached her and asked her what the problem was she said no problem and I go OK so why are you following me around the shop. She wouldn't answer me so I can only presume from that that she was accusing me of going in there to steal so I told her that I wanted to make official complaint against her and ask to speak to management so the manager of the store came out and he pretty much dismissed my claims and fobbed me off well if he thinks this is the end of it it definitely isn't will be making official complaint to head office. Definitely won't be recommending this branch of WHSmith to anyone unless you want to be accused of being a thief
