The Varicose Veins Clinic

As an ageing off road cyclist I was concerned that should I fall off at any time I could end up with long term problems, due to the numerous protruding varicose veins present in my left leg (strangely no problem with right leg). Following an initial consultation at the Varicose Vein Clinic in the Parkside Suite at Frimley Park Hospital, it was apparent that my condition was treatable. The date was set and I elected to go for a local, rather than general, anaesthetic. The anaesthetic worked as expected during surgery, however, while it wasnt painful in any way, it was quite apparent what was happening, at least during the removal of the lower veins. If I were to have the same operation again, I would probably still go for local anaesthetic but anyone in any doubt may wish to consider a full, rather than local anaesthetic. As you would expect there was some pain as the local anaesthetic wore off but over the counter pain killers were found to be adequate in controlling this, as well as any subsequent pain experienced. After the first couple of days I increased the recommended walking distance (my own decision) and at least for me, this appeared to help in the healing process. Some time has now passed since the operation and if I were a vain (??) person I would say my leg looks great..!! More importantly there are no longer any vulnerable veins to damage, should I fall off my bike. The only pain I experienced prior to the operation was when washing/drying my leg, this was quite unpleasant. Since the operation there is no longer any pain, basically no different to my good leg. I must say Im really pleased that I had the operation, as well as with the outcome. If you are thinking about it, I would certainly recommend you consider arranging for a consultation, to see if it is appropriate for you. I used this Clinic so it was the best decision I have made to get my spider veins removed!!! Excellent facilities and the end result is worth (no more little veins ) so both my legs just looks superb especially in the sun. From the Secretary who booked my appointments to the Consultant Mr Dastur who performed my procedure I highly recommend this Clinic at Parkside Frimley Park Hospital. Mr Dastur a top class professional Consultant and if need I will go back for further treatment.

David Gerrard was kindly recommended to me by another very respected member to the medical profession... From initial consultation through to the final follow up David has been extremely informative and professional but in the most friendly manor. The end result being my previous problematic veins are now a thing of the past and my legs feel so much lighter than before !!.
