Firstly I need to mention that there is a few sets of steps from the parking space behind the house down to the back door of the house. They are not ideal for those with mobility struggles and there are no handrails to help. This was unexpected and problematic for the member of our holiday with arthritis in their knees so I just want to forewarn people. Personally, I really liked this place. It is basic but a decent size and clean and I have never been able to afford fancy anyway. Decent size kitchen diner with a dining table and a multi level garden. I personally felt it was a shame that a lovely large room at the front of the house was taken up by a pool table but if playing pool in the evening is your thing then it's a bonus. Plenty of sleeping space upstairs, there is also a fairly large landing so in a pinch you could put someone out there on a camp bed also. Both an upstairs and downstairs WC, although the downstairs is small - but handy for those that struggle with stairs. The master bedroom is very large with a double, there's a second bedroom with two full size singles and a third smaller bedroom with a single bed. The upstairs bathroom is lovely, bright and spacious with a shower and bath. There's also a multi level garden, great for sitting out with a morning cuppa or in the evening. The biggest and best thing about this house is just how close you are to Chesil Beach. It's minutes from the back of the house just head left towards the pub for easy access via a few steps. I would stay here again.

So we ready the reviews, and read some more, and they sounded ominous! But while searching for a family breakaway, in the school summer holidays, that allowed dogs! Well it was a bit of an ask! We found Cliff House. Price wise, it was about the same as most Yurts/Bell tents/Etc. And it was actually cheaper then most the mobile homes we saw! So we carried the expectation of camping with 4 walls, a roof, hot water, heating etc. So day of arrival there was a bit of panic as no response from owner on the phone after 4 hours driving...I pulled up and the owner was inside giving the house a final clean. So the pictures in use for the property need updating as they show a different carpet, the range cooker is no longer there and the sofa has changed. The house was old, but not unclean, its just by the sea! Yes the house is a little unfinished in places and does feel a little like student/shared accommodation with a large pool table taking up the majority of the largest living room, however on the flip side there is a pool table! All the beds and mattresses were in reasonable condition and permitted everyone a decent nights sleep. The heating was a little temperamental but what a great excuse to fire up the wood burning stove in the living/dining area. The host could make a little more effort with his recommendations for food and drinks/activities locally...considering he appears from next door when you have any trouble. There is a watersports rental/tuition place within a stones throw, as well as 2 pubs, 2 cafes, a fish and chip shop, chinese takeaway and my favourite...The Portland Pizza Company. As a base to explore from, or just a very reasonably priced dog friendly seaside accommodation we would highly recommend it. Thanks for the stay.
