I was extremely disappointed with the service provided during our stay at Black Barn Spa on Monday 10th April. We came to celebrate our anniversary, booking the Woodland Apartment as I wanted something really special and luxurious. During our stay, we felt very unwelcome upon arrival, as we were not greeted by any member of staff. We took a stroll around the grounds, as the garden looked beautiful and wanted to find our bearings. We came across Paul who seemed very unhappy that we were walking around the garden. The key safe was already set on our combination so the key was not secure. When entering our apartment it looked amazing, with all the furniture and decor. We wanted to sit outside on our apartment patio but felt that we could not sit outside our apartment while there we people in the Jacuzzi as we could hear their entire conversations. So we stayed in feeling very confined. We read through the Information booklet that was left on the table, it was water damaged and we were shocked to see that it was not laminated or at least freshly printed pages. It would have been nice to have been informed of the Castle being so close and a walk away and other "things to do". There wasn't any information in the booklet about using any of the appliances. I had to call reception to get help turning on the cooker hob, Donna was very helpful and friendly. She came to the apartment and informed us we had the wrong cooking pans and needed Halogen cookware in order for the stove to turn on. This information would of been great to know before arrival. We settled in ready for a drink and some food only to find that we had to drink out of plastic glasses. We expected some luxury. The robes were very small and felt only having one size robes was weight discrimination and it made me uncomfortable. The robes look nice hanging up in the room but could be collected on arrival. Also having one set of towels in the room is very unhygienic, we are expected to shower before going in the Spa. You then shower when coming out of the spa area, as your body is covered with chlorine and then a shower in the morning before checkout to enjoy the day ahead. At least two sets of towels should have been provided. The Spa was wonderful, however the experience was very short when taking into consideration uncovering and covering up the pools, an hour and a half or 3 hours like paying guests get would be great. The fairy lights and ambience were tranquil and romantic. When getting back to the room we had no where to hang our wet clothes, something outside the room would be great. Inside the room I found that there were lots of areas that need attention, cleaning or fixing. A big chunk of dust under the Dresser in the sitting room. We were unable to light the fire without fire lighters, safely and efficiently. Paint was all scuffed on the wall near the dining table. The Bedroom fairy lights were broken. There was a hole in the wall underneath the dressing table. The wardrobe was bashed by the bathroom door. No hand or Hair towels. The shower leaked across the bathroom floor which as you know is rotting the dirty frame. We had to use our robes to mop up the water from the floor. Fridge was smelly. The washing machine draw was dirty and mouldy. No Pizza Cutter or Glasses. No ice in the freezer just someones Ben & Jerrys ice cream that had been left. I emailed prior to our stay and left a voice message on the morning before we left to ask for some Ice in our room but I had no response from either. We want to encourage you to improve your customer service, Cleanliness and state of repair as we dont want anyone to ruin his or her vacation or special moment staying here. After hearing from one of my friends we had a positive impression of your apartments but its totally ruined now. The high price I paid for the overnight stay we expected a home from home experience with some added extras. Have pride in your family run business Rooms: The room was very spacious with wonderful decor and luxury, but was let down by the areas that needed fixing or touching up.
