Used this Home Bargains a fair bit when purchasing homeware after moving to the area, but I haven't been in since an altercation with an extremely inept 'manager' in 2020. After spending nearly 50 on shopping we accidently forgot to put a 5 pair of PJs on the belt and ended up walking out without paying for them. I noticed the item still draped over the handle of our pram when we were stood outside of the store trying to get everything organized, with a crying baby in a pram, 2 bags of shopping and new bedding. I double checked the receipt (which was more like a scroll), walked back towards the store, informed the member of staff who was stood on the door that I believed we had made a mistake and hadn't paid for said item, apologised, and said that I was coming in to pay for it. The 'manager' informed me that he had seen that the item hadn't been put through at the time (yet didn't let us know whilst the rest of the items were being scanned) and then proceeded to shout about 15 metres across the car park that my wife knew exactly what she was doing, called her a thief and told her she was no longer welcome in the store. I asked to speak to a manager, at which point he loudly went about declaring that he was a manager. So I asked to speak to an alternative member of staff, as I wanted a full cash refund for everything that we had just paid for. To be fair to the other person, they were more than apologetic (they were also a senior member of staff who was there from a different store on cover), and I explained to them the reason why I wanted a full refund, and how the "manager's" actions were completely unprofessional. The "store manager" then continued to interject with comments and remarks across two lanes and other customers, even though I had asked him to relieve himself from the situation so that I could talk to the staff member privately, but he continued to escalate the problem. The staff member who reimbursed me informed me that we were more than welcome back, but as this is the worst customer service experience I have faced I assured her that we would not be stepping foot in the store again. I contacted Home Bargains about the incident, they also assured me that said member of staff would be given the appropriate training, but judging by Martin's comment in January 2023, it seems like the store still doesn't know how to treat customers, and the company's recruitment process is still very poor in respect to their values and understanding. If I had caught a member of staff speaking to a customer in that manner in one of my previous roles, I would not want them representing my business in a front facing manner! I can only assume based on subsequent comments that either this "manager" is still at large, or he is parting his incompetent customer service skills on to other members of staff as part of a training process. Go to Poundstretcher or Heron Foods on Lord Street instead, the staff there are far more welcoming and won't publicly call you every name under the sun. There's also an Iceland further down the main road with well priced food. Alternatively, there's a decent sized B&Ms in Cleveleys if you want homeware.
