Rebranded as Jolene. But itll always be Big Jo to me. Great coffee, bakery and Roman-style pizzas.

Very good food, lovely waitress. But seriously overpriced. Also, bizarrely for this part of North London, the waitress seemed really surprised to be asked if they had anything vegan. She came back a few minutes later, having asked the chef, who had crossed out almost everything on a copy of the menu, which felt very pointed. Even crossed out the butter part of bread and butter. I could imagine him/her muttering under their breath ****ing vegans as they did so. Vegetarian the same.

Dont go to this place unless you enjoy overpriced food and staff with an attitude problem. Weve been three times because for some reason its highly rated - once to eat in, once to takeaway, and on the third occasion we left before ordering anything. We wont bother trying again. Staff are unwelcoming and unhelpful. There is no signage to indicate whether you should sit or be seated, whether youre in their shop or restaurant, or whether you order at the bar - making it really inaccessible. The food is nice enough but is expensive very oily. The price could possibly be justified if the atmosphere didnt try so hard to cater to an edgy crowd. Unfortunately they cant justify the atmosphere either as theyre really not doing anything out of the ordinary or making any culinary waves. Other restaurants around the corner on Stroud Green Road have lovely friendly staff and serve fantastic food, so Id recommend turning around at the door and walking 5 minutes down the road. The staff only seem to care about a certain type of customer so they wont even notice you leave. Finally, I wouldnt even had bothered to write any of this if the staff had been just a bit nicer. Thanks!
