Sadly, this has closed. A message was put on Facebook that, after 52 years at the shop, the grandson of Frank Strowger (who had opened this branch in 1964), was retiring and the business was to cease trading on Saturday 30th April 2022. ====================== A rare find that should be made more use of! This hardware shop can sell you individual items such as a hook for 40p, or a nut and bolt, or just the nut. I have ordered packs of such things online, and find I have too many, so just buying what you want for one job is ideal. I went in the shop on a Thursday afternoon, looking for paint brushes and white spirit, all easy to spot. I also needed a new washing line as the cheap one I had bought from a pound shop was already fraying and due to break. I couldn't initially see if they had any and so asked the fellow behind the counter. He came round and showed where the lines are kept and described what the different types were. I expect my new line to last a lot longer than the 'bargain' I had bought elsewhere. I remember when there were two branches of Strowgers, a larger one being near the Mitcham railway station. That site is now occupied by a Nisa store. There's a similar hardware store in Streatham High Road, but even so, these shops aren't as common as they once were. Use them or lose them, as they say!
