I have been dining here on a regular basis for years , occasionally for breakfast, often meet a group of friends for lunch and sometimes in the evening. It has terrific views from the orangery and outside too. The food is good value , friendly and helpful staff, plus a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. I have recommended Spikes bar to many people.

That was a big mistake. I took my family out for lunch to celebrate a birthday on Sunday. I was asked to book at 12:30 as we were a table of 8 because it gets busy after that. We arrived in plenty of time, but were left standing around for 10 min before any one was available to show us to the table. We then had to wait 20 mins before we were able to order a drink. I had checked before booking to make sure there was both a Childrens menu and vegan options. We were told there is no childrens menu today and one vegan dish. Eventually at 1:30 our starters came. We are now one hour in with two very hungry children. Only some of our plates were cleared. Our mains started to arrive in dribs and drabs at 2:30. We had no cutlery, as we couldnt get the attention of the waitress one of our party took cutlery from several empty tables so we could eat our food. Definitely wont be going again. Place was totally understaffed and chaotic
