Horrible monolithic memorial stones have been installed, replacing a park like setting.

The centenary commemoration at the Memorial Cross was very touching. A huge number of people visited the Memorial Garden afterwards.

This WAS a lovely, peaceful, pleasant small neighbourhood garden well maintained by volunteers. Then the council then redesigned it at considerable cost and, unfortunately, it has been ruined by them. The overall effect is very sanitised and the huge stone monuments remind me of memorials from Stalin's Soviet Union. It is very ugly. It makes me sad to see it every time I walk along Stone Street. I miss the old garden and hope that steps will be taken to rectify the damage that has been done.
