We had seen the Sky Den on George Clarke's amazing spaces so we had a good idea of what to expect. This is 'glamping' in its most literal sense. I went with my wife and 9 year old son. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The place was clean and warm, lots of bedding and towels were provided together with washing up liquid and even a pint of milk. It is basic, as we expected but there is everything you need. Making up the room to suit what you are using it for is great fun and you can change it from a bedroom, to a kitchen to a social space. The bed in the Sky Den was also very comfortable and the shower was nice and hot (no heating in the shower room so just as well!). The view up the river is stunning and the noise of the water is a wonderfully calming sound. The only thing I would point out is to maybe bring a couple of camping chairs to sit on in the evening as the bed couch is really just a bed and too upright to sit on comfortably even with the cushions. The Sky Den is sold as a unique experience and it absolutely lives up to that. We had a fantastic adventure and my son particularly enjoyed the fun aspects of it.

Wow and wow! Ever since we seen the Sky Den on Amazing Spaces it was always something we wanted to experience and it did not disappoint! After a travel to keilder forest it was a smooth access code to get in and parking was easy just outside the building. As we investigated round the square, triangle and circle there was always something else to see with incredible design. We spent one night sleeping in the triangle and one in the square to gain the full experience. The peaceful noise of the river passing by throughout the Sky Den is soothing on the soul and tranquil... however don't have a lot to drink nearer bedtime as you will have to wrap up warm if you need to pop outside and down the stairs to access the toilet overnight just inside the square. Seeing the stars from triangle at 1am is something I will never forget. My only small gripe with visiting during the winter is that there is no coffee or food open on the site at Calvert Keilder if you didn't come prepared. However a quick 15-30 min drive out and about will soon get you breakfast, good pub food or a coffee somewhere in one of the small towns of Northumberland. Will definitely visit again ... in the warmer months!

We went to the sky den November 17th . It had been postponed for a year as the pandemic disrupted our plans , it was for a special occasion a 60th birthday, so we were so excited to go a year later than was planned . We had all the emails preparing for are journey , roughly 4hrs , studied the directions thoroughly with the post code which was on the email . We got to kielder following the brown signs , then we needed the postcode , it was dark as we couldn't check in til after 5pm . The post code sent us up a track way into the deep forest , it was quite frightening as it was very remote , no lights signs or anything ,we thought this surly cant be right ! When we reached where the postcode sent us it was a old farm house . We turned around as we were in the thick forest & we wanted to get back to the proper tarmac road asp. We found the waterside winter wonderland & asked directions , we were only 5mins away but cos of the no lighting the road sign wasn't obvious. Was very stressful having to get to the sky den in the dark with poor lighting. Once there it reached our expectations in every way, it was a very special place & we felt very lucky getting to stay there. So to future guests I'd say check the postcode.
