While waiting for the fish that I ordered to be cleaned, I requested the guy, very politely, if I could have a slice of a kingfish. I got told by him with very annoyed tone that I should order all at one go and not one at a time. Felt insulting and asked him to never mind before walking off. I had been a regular for couple of years.

Best Fishmonger in Croydon. Very very fresh and affordable price for the seasonal fish. Staffs are excellent with good manner.

I visited this place yesterday. I bought 2 seabass and 1 frozen octopus. I wanted fresh octopus but they said they had run out so I took a frozen one instead. The label was stating the octopus was about 1.3kg and they charged me 27 in total (10 for the 2 seabasses and 17 for the octopus). So far all ok. I went home and after it was defrosted I started cleaning the octopus. I noticed some strange bubbles just under the skin in various areas which I had never noticed in fresh octopus that I usually buy, but still, I thought it was ok. I cut it in pieces and started cooking it. In just 5 mins the octopus was shrunk so much as if it was a little octopus - it was reduced by 70% at least. Later when I tried if it was cooked I realised it was super salty but I had added NO salt at all from my side. Then, I understood what had happened... It was very obvious that these strange bubbles were sea water injected under the skin so as to weight so much and that can explain that the octopus was shrunk that much in the first 5 mins. At the end it was a portion just for 1 person - normally 1.3kg of octopus gives 3-4 portions... It's the last time I m buying from this place. Beware before u but their frozen octopus. They charge a fortune and 75% of what u pay is water. Never visiting them again.
