Tom at Ewhurst Bikes is a total legend. He collected my bike, transformed into something much better and now I am able to get out on it. Having lots of fun riding through the woods around where I live. If it wasnt for him, my bike would still be under a dust sheet in the garage, all broken and unloved. I highly recommend his services. Hes a nice bloke too

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY Unfortunately I have to say Im particularly displeased with the service I received at Ewhurst Bikes. Tom while pleasant charges an extortionate amount for what he provides. Upon receiving my bike for a calliper replacement and brake bleed, and rear hanger straightening he sent me an invoice which included a 35 charge, already committed, just for having looked at my bike - not discussed prior to drop off. Tom also included charges to change the freehub body and replace my worn 10-52t cassette with a new 11-52t. The cassette on the bike was brand new. He was also very keen to straighten my rear wheel which I already know needs a new rim because of how badly dented it was and doesnt hold pressure, but he failed to notice that. Additionally there was a 90 fee to replace my pads - despite having supplied the pads myself. All in all he wanted to charge me 672. After pointing out the cassette and chain were brand new and there were pads in the wheel bag he sent a new quote. The second quote came in at 432. And diagnosed a bent rear mech which he was proposing straightening for 40, how he planned to do that I dont know. There was a 35 fee for setting up my gears - something I can do myself and told him that clearly. 35 labour adjust, check and service. So were looking at 105 fees to look at the bike and adjust the gears (Halfords do that for 5, not that I would take a 3k bike there.) Also there was 80 fees for the brake calliper replacement and bleed AND an additional 25 fee for replacing the pads - again something I told him I am happy to do myself as its a 30 second job Eventually I settled on an agreement that still set me back 301 then later, but before agreeing with me, he had already committed me to a 127 fee for the front calliper hed ordered. Eventually I received my bike. Upon receiving it I found hed fitted a different calliper to the one that came off. A cheaper, older, Shimano XT calliper. And put in pads that were not the ones I supplied. He refused to return the pads I gave him as hed put in new ones and for the replacement calliper I asked to be returned he was puzzled as to why I would want it. I have since had the pistons replaced for under 50 and it is working like brand new. I think Toms service is beyond a joke. Edit: To be clear on calliper change Tom claims the older M8020 is superior to the newer M8120. I would dispute this and would argue if you are going to order parts for a customer and charge over their value you should at the very least contact them if you do not plan on making a like-for-like swap. Rather than handing the bike back to them without informing the customer of the changes made. Admittedly the sintered pads he fitted were better than the organic ones provided, but I did not ask for them and certainly didnt want my calliper replaced with one thats not compatible with the pads I already purchased. Tom has stated many times he would be more than happy to change things back for me, but after he misdiagnosed the issue with my shifting, telling me the brand new never ridden cassette was worn out (and came up with a ridiculous suggestion of changing out the free-hub body and buying a new cassette to solve the issue) I would not go back as I dont want him working on my bike.
