Off the beaten track but within easy walking distance to pubs and a popular village shop, there lies an idyllic 400 year-old cottage, lovingly preserved and thoughtfully modernised. It's quirky and homely, but still spacious and light. The mattresses and bedding are all of very high quality and the kitchen was a delight. Everything was clean, well aired and welcoming. Its obvious that this is not just a rental but a home that is loved and enjoyed by the family that own it. We were 2 adults, 4 teenagers and an excited puppy, staying for a week. Once there you don't need to get back in a car, unless you choose to sightsee further afield. There are stunning walks in all directions, including down to the steam railway which can take you to Ravenglass for the day. You will likely be woken by the sound of nearby sheep and you can enjoy the delicious local ice-cream knowing that the extra calories will be worked off by the steep 10 minute climb back to the front door. Matthew, the owner, was friendly and extremely helpful and knowledgeable of where to go and walks to try. We had a fabulous week and are already planning our return visit Jan 13th, 2022

Been here twice. Such a perfect place. In a remote setting but 5 to 10 minute walk away from the 2 lovely pubs in Boot and the little shop. We went with 2 other families and there was plenty of space for all. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking large meals. Rooms and beds are comfortable. The garden is gated, great for the kids to feel safe. BBQ is is clean and ready to use and the little local shop sells coal. Also worth knowing Tesco do home delivery here too. You couldn't ask for a better place to explore the local area. We'll definitely be back for a third visit. Also really local to the lovely mini steam train. Oct 30th, 2018
