The surrounding valley and location is stunning. You are really in the middle of nowhere with really easy access to trails. The hostel is clean, and the rooms are confortable. The self catering kitchen is well equipped and clean. The host was really friendly. There's no network signal or WiFi, which can be a blessing but it makes it difficult to check the weather forecast and plan hiking or running routes using GPS apps. The only drawback is that the showers have no water pressure, although they were hot. Walkability: Really easy to access the trails that take to to the top of some of the highest peaks in the Lake District

I've been to a few YHA's, so they have a great reputation for location, price & facilities. This one has all of the previous with the exception of terrible showers. On the first morning my party stayed, it was a luke-warm dribble (I was up v early and one of the first to use it. That evening, it was a cold drip (not even a dribble). On the second morning, the shower was back to a warm dribble again. The downstairs sink had pressure and warm water. I don't think the excuses of - the hostel was at capacity or it was dry can be made. Aside from that, the house has lots of character, the valley is stunning and the kitchen has excellent facilities. So on the whole, I do recommend this place!

1st stay in a YH for forty years and pleasantly surprised, the welcome was friendly, and everything was explained, I had booked a bunk in a dorm, which was clean, well aired and comfortable, plenty of USB fittings. I ordered the prepared breakfast which was great, well cooked and presented (proper Cumberland sausage) a veg option available My little break was a spur of the moment event and I was pleased I went, the best review I can give is I will be back soon I have one negative mentioned a lot in the reviews that is showers on the first floor there is no pressure and the word "insipid" I liked staying there, I slept well, and was well fedd. Although I didnt Have the evening meal I heard good comments from fellow guests Would give 5 stars but for shower sit 4.5 out of 5
