mill cottage Embleton

We have just returned early from Mill Cottage Embleton due to the building work which is being carried out. We were not informed when we took this last minute booking that there was scaffolding to the front and back of the cottages as we would not have taken the booking. One bedroom window has scaffolding in front of it and the front door has a ladder in front of it during working hours. We thought we had the use of a private back garden as we have a small dog. However, our cottage which didn't appear to be having any work done was a thoroughfare for the workmen to gain access to next doors property which did have a back door into their private garden. This meant the only time it was private outside was when the builders left at tea time. We both felt like we were in a goldfish bowl, you had to close the bedroom curtain, pull the blind down in the bathroom, wherever you were in the cottage you could see the workmen going on with their task. I do not blame the builders they had a job to do, as for the owner the property should not have been let. We did receive instructions from the owner on how we were to use the property but failed to give us the bigger picture regarding the building work. This cottage is tiny and you need the private outside space which its advertised. The cottage does require tlc especially outside. Would not return again. I might add we have stayed in Northumberland for many years and this is the first time we felt that we just couldn't stay any longer. I have notified the owner but received no response whatsoever.
