I have just finished my first year on the two year course at Brushstroke's Elstree Academy. I loved my first year and am so glad I came to this college. One of the things that attracted me to the course in the first place was that it teaches you a bit of everything and all the tutors are working hair and makeup artists in the industry. This has, without doubt, continued to be my favourite thing about the course. I have learned so much that this time last year I had no idea about. The tutors are always kind and happy to help, as well as answer any questions you have about the industry. It is so clear how much they love their craft and it makes learning from them so enjoyable, especially when you are so passionate about something and you can learn from people who are so happy to share their advice and expertise. In my first year, we have learned about hair and makeup through the ages, from Elizabethan to present, learned how to use wigs, make facial pieces and hair extensions, as well cover theatrical makeup and sfx. The only thing I would say is that I would have liked to have learned a little more around period hairstyling for men as the majority of the course is focused on women. However, these are transferable skills and would not stop me from highly recommending brushstroke! A makeup kit is provided for you when you start, which is a great way of starting your collection, as well as seeing what products are used in the industry. I would only say that you need to be prepared to add to it, as well as buy your own hair equipment before you start your course. As I mentioned, I am loving my studying at Brushstroke and it has 100% solidified that this is what I want to do with my career! Brushstroke has given me some incredible work opportunities from short films to trainee work on one of Netflixs most popular period dramas. There is definitely no better place to meet and learn from highly experienced makeup artists! I look forward to year two and can't wait to learn more!! :))

I joined the ITEC Level 3 course seeking a change of career. The tutors are specialists in their subject so I received high quality tuition and fantastic support. Work experience opportunities arose while I was studying on the course which helped me gain an insight into the TV & Film industry. I enjoyed the course so much I stayed on and completed the VTCT Level 2 Womens and Mens Hairdressing course which complimented my overall training and gave me extra skills for working in the industry.

I did the 2 year Hair And Makeup course at Brushstroke. I then wanted to expand my qualifications and skills so I decided to do the Hairdressing and Barbering course. All the teachers are amazing and really help you if you are struggling. Louise is super lovely and helpful and has helped me to get my previous jobs. Highly recommend Brushstroke if you are looking to become a Makeup Artist. You will learn so much!!
